The United Nations has confirmed that 13 of its staff have been detained by Houthi rebels in Yemen. The world body is pursuing all available channels to secure their release.
The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, said they have launched a missile attack on a United States aircraft carrier in the Red Sea in response to deadly US and Saudi-led airstrikes in Yemen.
President Biden sent a message to the Houthis after the US carried out new strikes targeting their positions in Yemen. The US says the strikes were in response to Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.
The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing for several years and has caused a humanitarian crisis. The UN estimates that millions of people in Yemen are facing food shortages and disease.
